The Self Made Men
This site is self described as "a tool used to serve the transgender male community. On one end, we educate and promote awareness of our existence, needs and normalcy to individuals and groups in both the GLBT and Allied communities. Mirrored to this cause, our biggest concerns lie with the support and mentoring of other transgender people as a resource to transitioning and dealing with everyday life."
The Self Made Men has a number of programs through its site, a news roll, resources, and its own store. The programs listed are as follows:
- TVersary Postcard
- The Big Brother Program
- Me Too! the Trans* pen pal system
This site is a free support and information site for anyone who falls under the trans* umbrella, as well as friends and family of: one of its features being a large variety of members-only forums.
Forums: The community is warm and helpful, and the forum itself very easy to navigate. Also on hand is a wonderful staff of moderators whom regulate posts and enforce site rules to ensure a safe, friendly environment.
Suicide Prevention: The most valuable thing about this site is its hard work toward suicide prevention. Its mission is to "lower the [trans*] suicide rate and provide online support for all transgendered persons and their families". It is staffed and driven by volunteers, with all its site moderators required to have taken or be trained by a youth suicide prevention course.
